Here’s a thought, triggered by reading A.A. Milne’s excellent, 1934 work: Peace with Honour: An Enquiry into the War Convention. If you’ve been reading this blog, you are aware that Milne thought war was both horrid and childish, a very, very ineffective way to resolve international conflict. He had lots of good ideas for how we could avoid ever fighting wars again, including this one:
“If there were a law, made and enforced by all nations that on the outbreak of war the President (Prime Minister) and Secretary of State (Foreign Secretary) of the warring countries were immediately hanged, then there would be no more war…”
I’m not keen on hanging anybody, but such a law might just put the fear of God and respect for the people into the minds of leaders who drag us into war after war after war. Milne’s thoughts led me to Bumper Sticker #6:
IF WE WERE ALL NONVIOLENT, WAR WOULD BE HISTORY.
